In January of 2013 I decided to fly Nicky out to Portland to finally do just that, have a good old fashioned staycation in my home studio. We stepped out one day for an amazing photo shoot with Leah Nash. But mostly we drank smoothies, did lots of self care and made music. We didn't tell anyone Nicky was in town. I had a bunch of tracks set aside with Nicky in mind, so we concentrated mostly on writing songs, practicing and recording vocals. "Can't Slow Down" we had visited every time we went on tour, so we got that one out of the way immediately. I wrote the lyrics and we recorded it the first day. After that we only had to roll with it. Being travel buddies, it's a repeat scenario for Nicky and I to be holed up together in a small space. The music poured out of us the whole time we were together. It was a fun creative time. Thank you Nicky! We wrote and recorded about 11 songs. Hopefully some day we can put out the full LP we long to produce. I often like to refer to my work as Q-Pop. These five tracks best represent what I think Q-Pop is… Left of center pop tunes with queer themes. All music recorded and produced in Logic Pro, with special appearances by the Korg Monotribe, GarageBand for iPhone and Logic’s Ultrabeat drum machine with an arsenal of vintage drum files.
